The scene is Rocky II, Adrian is in a coma, Rocky, Mickey, and Paulie all are at her bedside. Rocky should be training for his fight against Apollo, but he can’t focus on anything other than his wife, who is in a coma after giving birth to their first child. Adrian finally comes out of the coma, asks Rocky to come closer, and tells Rock, “Win, Win.” Mickey yells, “What are we waiting for”? Cue Rocky Music…
We want to wait for life’s perfect moment to begin life. We want to wait for life to settle down, to have all of our ducks in a row before we start to move forward. But if I can be honest, that is just an excuse. A story we tell ourselves to explain why we are not making changes.
There is an old quote that I heard a long time ago,
“The road to someday leads to a town called nowhere.”
Waiting for a moment that may never come is just wasting away life. Someday may never come, and it usually doesn’t. How often do we trade our dreams away? Allow other people to tell us why you can’t do what you desire? Or just give up?
In Rocky, he had Adrian to tell him it was time to get going, but in real life, that voice usually must come from within you. One of my tattoos is a quote that has always spoken to my soul. It is in Latin, but in translation, it is.,”Fortune’s favor the brave.” Nothing is ever achieved, great love, wealth, health, without taking action. The time is always now to get on with living your life. The only things that are left when we don’t follow our dreams are regrets and excuses.
I leave you with a quote from the TV actor Michael Landon after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer,
“Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows.”
